Dear Mr. President,
I heard some
distressing news today. You've frozen hiring of federal jobs. I've
heard that a lot of people are really happy about this news because
it should cut down on the corruption of state and local governments.
That sounds like a
really good thing, but I'm worried, Sir, about the child care
situation in my community. You see, Mr. President, I'm a military
spouse living in Germany, and all of the jobs on the base are federal
jobs. You may not know this, but most of them are filled by spouses.
When a service member has to move to a new base, the family goes too,
leaving a vacancy in whatever position they held. Our child care
services are already slim, but now they're cutting back even more.
What happens to our quality of life when all of our support services
can no longer be supported. I have to admit, Mr. President, that this
life is often very lonely, but the meager things offered to us help
to ease the sting a little.
I was wondering,
why jobs in the military community were not exempt from the hiring
freeze. I hope it lets up soon because I am really worried.
